I am always looking for little short cuts and time savers in my day to make my schedule run a little easier. After all there here are only so many hours in the day to get it all done. I found these 6 simple homemaking time saving hacks really just make things easier for the rest of my week.
6 Simple Homemaking Time Saving Hacks
Let’s start in the kitchen:
1 – Prep all produce and/or meat when you get home from the store.
As soon as I get home from grocery shopping I put all of my pantry items, freezer items and dairy items away but keep out all my meats and produce. I start with my meats. I’ll trim the fat off the chicken and divide it up into smaller freezer bags made for each meal that week. Or if I bought anything in bulk I’ll divide it up as well. Saves me tons of time when I am preparing a meal all the prep work is done.
I do the same with my produce. I will cut all my melon and wash/cut all my berries. I then divide them into smaller containers that my children take for school lunches. Makes making lunches for then quick and easy.
2 – Make one day your errand day.
Not only does this save you time but it can ultimately save you some money. I do all of my grocery shopping the same day once or twice a week at most! This goes along with any trips to the drug store if needed, gas or the bank. I know if I have to run to Target for that unexpected “I just need 1 thing” trip it usually will turn into a small shopping trip and I come home with things I do not need.
Plus if you are already running to the grocery store it cuts down on multiple days in the car so you can focus on other things.
3 – Make a double recipe and freeze it.
I do this alot when I make taco meat, grilled chicken and my tomato sauces. If I know I have an extra busy week ahead of me I’ll throw an extra portion of it and freeze the rest for another meal.
4 -Clean up as you cook.
This is simple but it makes all the difference. The last thing I want to do after I eat dinner with my family is clean up the aftermath of the dinner prep. I have gotten into the habit of starting to wipe down all the counters that are no longer in use as I cook and load the dishwasher as I go. After dinner the kids take care of their plates all I do is wipe the stove, the table and sweep the floor and I am done in no time.
Now here are a few for the bathroom:
5 – Clean the shower when you are in it.
I have a pretty big stand up shower and it is the one chore I HATE to do. I have to get inside it when I give it a good clean, I get soaking wet and it’s just a mess. Once a week I give it a good scrub down before I take a shower or while I am deep conditioning my hair. I have to wait for the conditioner anyway so I just scrub as I wait.
6 – Clean the kids bathroom while they are in the tub.
While my kids are taking their showers or baths I use that time to do a little cleaning too. I’ll wipe the counters and toilet down or straighten up under the cabinets or go through the medicine cabinets.
And there it is my 6 Simple Homemaking Time Saving Hacks to save you some time in your day as a busy mommy or daddy.
