Do you lack cleaning motivation?
There are days I do! We all do!
Whether you are overwhelmed by the mess or are lacking the energy to clean your house, I got you covered.
Finding motivation to clean your house can be hard.
I get it. There is so many other things you could be doing or want to do.
But, the chores will still be there when you get back.
So let’s dive in…
Here are 10 cleaning motivation hacks to get you motivated to clean your house.
1- Start In The Morning Or As Early As You Can
There is something about the saying “eat the frog”.
Get it done and do it first thing.
By waiting all day to clean your house your cleaning motivation is most likely to go downhill.
This is why I highly recommend making your bed first thing in the morning.
By starting off your day making your bed, it’s a small task that makes you feel accomplished.
Once you do that you are more likely to want to tackle more.
Don’t put off cleaning your house, try to get it done as soon as you can so you have the rest of your day free.
2 – Create A Cleaning Routine or A Cleaning Schedule
A lot of us get overwhelmed by mess. Especially when you feel your whole house is a mess and you do not know where to start.
Find a cleaning routine or a cleaning schedule that works for you and your family.
My biggest cleaning tips that I share are routines and habits.
You start cleaning without even thinking about it.
That way your house stays pretty clean all the time by breaking it up into smaller chunks of time.
I have an awesome weekly cleaning routine checklist that shows you exactly what to clean and when.

It even includes a daily task section to stay on top of the little housekeeping tasks.
For me there is just something about a good old pen and paper to cross things off.
A weekly cleaning schedule can boost your motivation to clean your house by seeing the progress you are making every day.
3 – Start Small, Very Small
If you are still trying to find your cleaning routines I suggest starting off small and when I say small I mean very small.
Pick one task such as making your bed each morning.
Stick to it for a couple of weeks and build upon that.
There is nothing worse than trying to get motivated to clean your house when you are tired, start off small.
Don’t take on too many cleaning tasks or cleaning habits at once.
Build on little cleaning tasks can help you especially when you are overwhelmed by the mess.
Let the rest go or you will burn out and give up.
4 – Set A Timer
There are a couple of reasons I like to set a timer when I need cleaning motivation.
First, it will hold you accountable for time.
If you have other things to do that day, I mean we are moms so you do, set a timer and stick with it.
Once the timer goes off be done.
Walk away from the cleaning.
By racing against that clock you know you have only this amount of time to get it done.
Second, you’ll get better at cleaning faster each time.
If you follow a daily cleaning routine you will see the more you follow it as planned the better you will get at it.
Stick to cleaning task the same way each time.
If it’s bathroom cleaning day start with the same area first every time.
I personally like to start with the shower/tub. I start there because the showers take the longest for me. So I get the hardest job done first.
Then I move onto cleaning the toilet and then the sinks.
By doing it exactly the same way every single time your speed will get better leaving more room for other things in your day.
5 – Create A Playlist of Your Favorite Songs
What better way to amp up your
enery to vlean than your favorite songs.
Music is one of those things that can motivate you to do a lot.
Create a playlist of your go to jams and get to cleaning.
This helps motivate my kids to clean their rooms too.
They know when I get my music blasting mom means business and its time to clean the house a little.
Dance, sing and have fun with it. Especially if you have your kids helping.
6 – Have Your Cleaning Supplies Ready and Organized
Do yourself a favor and get yourself a cleaning caddy. If you have multiple levels of your home make one for each floor.
Load each one with your favorite cleaning products.
I like to use as many multi-surface products as I can to avoid having so many cleaning products and overloading my caddy.
This cleaning motivation hack I found when we moved into our bigger home.
I did not want to run up and down the stairs or go back and grab products while I was cleaning.
I can now grab the caddy and start cleaning. It cuts down on time looking for products all over your hme.
7 – Make A Simple To Do List
There is that good old fashioned pen and paper trick again.
Write down exactly what you want to get done before you start cleaning.
Again, if you are just starting out keep it simple!
Your to do list will hold you accountable for the cleaning tasks that need to get done.

Find your cleaning motivation by getting back to basics.
This is why I love routines, they can start off very simple and you can build on them.
In order to get motivated to clean your house you need to set yourself up for success, not failure.
Life as a whole should be about the journey so why can’t running your home be the same?
