Today I am going to show you how I get my guest room ready for the holidays.

Tis the season for guests. During the holidays our homes quickly fill up with family and friends.
I love when my family comes to visit and stays at our home!
And, I try to make it as comfortable as possible for them.
But, that requires a little planning ahead.
Hosting guests in your home does not have to be stressful this holiday season with a few easy tips.
Here’s How to Get Your Guest Room Ready for the Holidays
1 – Sheets and Bedding
When you are getting your guest room ready for the holidays make sure the sheets are nice and fresh.
If you do not use your guest room often, the sheets and bedding you have on it may become musty.
Before guests arrive in town it’s a good idea to wash all of the bedding for a fresh laundered smell.
The bed is super important when you have guests in town so making it as cozy as possible is key.
When we have guests in town, I like to keep extra pillows and blankets in the closet as well.
That way if they need them they are all cleaned and ready to go to make your guests feel right at home.
2 – Towels
The same goes with towels.
If you have a bathroom your guests will be using add some nice fresh washed towels in there for them.
Include a few fresh hand towels and wash clothes as well.
3 – Extra Essentials
Make sure you are adding essentials like extra toilet paper, shampoo and soap when making up your guest bathroom space.
I keep a basket of various travel sized items under the bathroom sink, just for my guests. The basket itself is from the Dollar Tree! I find most of my travel items from Walmart, I think they have the best selection.
This basket includes:
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Body Wash
- A bar of soap
- Toothpaste
- Face wash
- Q -Tips
- Razors
- Shaving cream
- Hair spray
All the items a guest might need all in one basket.
I simply place that basket out before they arrive and they can help themselves to whatever they might need during their stay.
Another way to make your guests feel at home is to place a hair dryer in the bathroom as well.
4 – Leave Some Space
I like to keep my guest room ready for the holidays by keeping it very minimalist.
Normally my closet in our guest room is empty, minus the extra blanket and pillows.
If you have a dresser or closet in your guest space clear it out for them.
This also goes for night stands and bedside tables. Keep those surfaces as minimalist as possible so it allows your guests to place their items during their stay.
5 – Hangers
Be sure to include empty hangers in your closet for guests to use.
This could either be in your guest room or your coat closet for them to hang their items without taking up space in other places of your home.
6 – For the Kids
If your guests are staying with children include them in your prep too.
Include an air mattress with fresh linens to use.
Make up a little basket of their own that could include coloring books or crayons.
When my sister stays with us my niece loves that she gets her own basket.
I include essentials just for kids and a few extra goodies for her to use while she’s here.
7 – Electronic Friendly
Make sure you have a place where your guests can charge their electronic devices.
I like to include a power strip next to the bed with plenty of outlets so they can charge anything they need.
If you have extra phone chargers I place these onto the nightstand as well. That way they can use them if they forgot their own or they do not have to bother with taking theirs out.
8 – Cozy Touches
This is my favorite part of getting my guest room ready for the holidays!
It’s all about the cozy touches to make their stay very comfortable.
Depending on who is staying with us this list varies but here are the things I like to add into our guest room for guests:
- A robe
- Slippers
- Bottled water
- Fresh flowers
- Snacks
- Books
- A Wifi password card – I love this free printable from The Happier Homemaker
- A cozy Christmas throw blanket
Wrapping Up
When it comes to hosting overnight guests, it’s really in the little details.
These little details make your guests feel right at home, something they will appreciate.
I hope these simple tips can get your guest room ready for the holidays so you can enjoy your holidays even more.
