How To Deep Clean Your House In 7 Days

Are you struggling with how to start a deep cleaning of your house?

Cleaning your entire house can be so overwhelming. Especially if you have not had a chance to clean, moved into a new home or just life took over for a while.

Don’t worry I will explain 6 deep cleaning tips to do first before you start your deep clean.

I will layout a 7 day schedule to get your entire home clean fast!

So, let’s dive in to how to deep clean your house in 7 days.

Here are 6 deep cleaning tips before you start deep cleaning your house. Plus a 7 day cleaning schedule how to deep clean your house.

Prepping: Deep Clean Your House

1 – Make A List

Create a list of what you want to accomplish in your deep cleaning.

Every single item.

Think of it as a brain dump. This is great for your mental health too!

Vision every room in your home and write down the areas that really need a good deep clean.

From there combine things. If you think room by room would be easier map it out that way.

Or if you want to go chore by chore throughout your whole house, that would work too.

I’ll show you exactly how to break that up later in this post with a detailed day by day routine on how to get it all done.

You can see what my deep cleaning routine looks like, maybe you missed an area you need to add to this list.

2 – Set Aside Days

For most people deep cleaning takes 7 days.

That makes it easier to do so you are not spending hours and hours cleaning.

You will burn out fast!

Map out 7 days for your upcoming deep clean.

Keep it realistic. If you happen to have a full day and feel that you can get more done those days then go for it.

But I always like to plan for longer time frames. With kids its hard to know if I can have a full day to clean or not. Things happen so I would rather give myself plenty of time to accomplish a task.

3 – Keep Up With A Regular Weekly Cleaning Routine

Since this is a deep cleaning I do not add things like wiping or dusting.

I keep a pretty regular weekly cleaning routine so those items are already cleaned.

Before you even start with deep cleaning try out my weekly cleaning routine for a month.

It will get you into a groove where you are already ahead of the deep cleaning game.

You are less likely to get overwhelmed this way. The deep cleaning can wait until you have gotten into a good weekly cleaning routine.

4 – Get Supplies Ready

I always keep 2 cleaning caddys stocked.

One upstairs and one downstairs.

Take inventory of what you have and get your supplies ready and make a caddy for each level of your home.

It makes cleaning so much easier when you are not running up and down the stairs for different supplies.

5 – Keep It Simple

Just as I said to set aside 7 days to deep clean your house, keep this simple.

This is not the time for organization or that massive cleaning task you have been putting off for months.

For me that is my garage, it is a hot mess in there and there is no way I could do that in one day.

Do not add deep cleaning items on your list that you know can not get done.

You’ll just wind up being disappointed with your progress because a task took too long.

Save those bigger deep cleaning tasks for another time.

6 – Set A Timer

No matter what type of cleaning or organizing project I am working on I always set a timer.

This allows me to stay within the time I have and breaks up my day helping me not to burn out on something.

If I need more time to finish something I’ll just add it to another day.

7 Day Plan: Deep Clean Your House

Here I will walk you exactly what to clean on what days.

Feel free to mix it up.

  • Add tasks
  • Take away tasks
  • Move around the days
  • Combine Days

This is just a guideline

I find the bedrooms and kitchen are the most tedious and take a lot more of my time.

Day 1 – Deep Clean Bedrooms

  • Wash pillows
  • Wash or vacuum curtains
  • Vacuum and/ or mop behind dressers, nightstands and under the bed
  • Wash windows
  • Clean blinds
  • Shampoo rugs or carpets

Day 2 – Deep Clean Kitchen

  • Disinfect garbage can
  • Deep clean oven
  • Wipe out microwave
  • Clean fridge
  • Clean freezer
  • Wash rugs
  • Wipe backsplash
  • Clean blinds
  • Wash windows
  • Wash curtains

Day 3 – Deep Clean Bathroom

  • Disinfect toothbrush holders
  • Change out toothbrushes
  • Wash shower curtains
  • Replace curtain liner
  • Wash bathmats
  • Sanitize garbages
  • Clean the showerhead
  • Wash and disinfect kids bath toys
  • Clean windows
  • Clean blinds
  • Wash or vacuum curtains

Day 4 – Deep Clean Living Room and Other Living Spaces (Office, Dining Room)

  • Wash windows
  • Clean blinds
  • Vacuum furniture
  • Vacuum and/or mop under furniture
  • Wash pillows
  • Wash blankets
  • Disinfect remotes
  • Shampoo rugs or carpets
  • Wash or vacuum curtains

Day 5 – Deep Clean Fans, Lights, Doors and Vents

  • Dust fans
  • Dust light fixtures
  • Disinfect light switches
  • Disinfect door handles
  • Vacuum air vents – change the filters too!
  • Wipe down your front and/or backdoor

Day 6 – Deep Clean Laundry Room, High Corners and Baseboards

Day 7 – Catch Up

Anything you did not get done in days 1 – 6 you can add them on the 7th day!

I keep the 7th day open for a reason. If you have a lot of bedrooms to go through break those up into 2 days.

If going room by room does not work just take the deep cleaning tasks that are a like and combine them to make your own deep cleaning schedule.

For example:

  • First Day – Windows and Blinds
  • Second Day – Wash mats, curtains
  • Third Day – Anything floor related
  • Fourth Day – Kitchen Appliances
  • Fifth Day – Disinfecting Items
  • Sixth Day – Fans, high corners, and laundry room appliances
  • Seventh Day – Catch up day

Happy deep cleaning!

  1. This is an excellent way to sum it up, Jenn! My wife and I deep clean our house once every couple of months. The only challenge we have is that we don’t have enough time to clean the house, so, we usually hire people to do the cleaning for us. We look forward to doing it by ourselves, though. I will certainly take note of what you mentioned here. Thanks!
