I am sure at some point you have taken a look at your home and think “this is stressful and I do not know where to start”.
I hear you momma, and I have been there!
Life with kids can get messy.
With systems in place and little tips and tricks to organize your home the right way it will become second nature to keep it organized for good.
Here are 10 simple yet effective ways to organize your home for good.
1- Declutter First
When you are starting to organize your home you need to declutter first and foremost.
Decluttering areas of your home will make the task of keeping things more organized less overwhelming in the long run.
Take a section of your home that you have trouble with staying organized.
Look at each item and ask yourself when was the last time this was used or wore. Chances are very little so there is no need to keep it.
Once you have a clearer space with less “things” the easier it will be to maintain.
2 – Purge Regularly
Clutter will come back if we do not stay on top of it and your home will look less organized.
Take just a few minutes each and every day to clear the clutter and purge what you no longer need.
The goal to organize your home is to eliminate stress and simplify things.
3 – Create A Cleaning Routine
Having a good cleaning routine in place is key to running your home as smoothly as possible.
When you have established a weekly cleaning routine, things tend to stay neat and tidy in your home.
I like to break my weekly cleaning routine into small tasks each day. I tackle an area each day for about an hour.

4 – Create Organizing Systems That Work
Now I know there are so many beautiful organized spaces you see all over the internet. BUT, that does not mean it will work for the exact space you are trying to organize.
To really organize your home so it will stay organized is simple.
Step back from the space you are trying to organize.
Think to yourself.
Would baskets work in this space? How about a container with a lid or one without.
Really think about maximizing the space when it comes to organization.
When it comes to organizing under my bathroom sinks for my kids. I found that Dollar Tree containers worked best.
I did not use anything with a lid so they can see all of their items instead of having to look for them and closing the lid back when they were done.
Scour Pinterest for ideas on how you would like your space to look, however, keep in mind this has to work for you and your family.
5 – Create A Hot Spot or Drop Zone
Ah, the drop zone.
Designate a space in your home that is okay to drop the clutter.
You know, your mail, shoes, kids backpacks and shoes.
By limiting it to only one area makes it more manageable to tackle and keep up after.
This may be a part of your kitchen counter, or a front entry table area.
For our family this is my front entry way. I have a small table and a bench that my kids put their backpacks on.
Here is where I keep our shoes as well, inside buckets within the bench.
Keep it somewhere that you need to see it so you remember to organize it. So in this case a drawer is not ideal.
6 – Create Routines
Organize your home with routines in mind.
I love my routines! This changed the game for me after I became a mom.
I have a night routine and a morning routine that helps me stay on top of the running of my home.
For me my routines start the night before.
I make sure I set myself up for the next day.
This includes making sure my kitchen is clean before I go to bed. The last thing I want to see is a messy kitchen when I get up.
I like to do a quick pick up before I go to bed as well. I tackle my hot spot, any of the kids’ toys laying around and make sure my house looks presentable.
Here is where I will make a quick to-do list for the following say as well.
Set yourself up for success! That way the next day you can wake up to a clean home and not feel like you are one step behind.

7 – Create A Command Center
A command center is not only esetically pleasing to look at it is so functional and keeps everyone on task.
Try to designate a spot in your home where you can have all your important things in one spot.
This should include a calender of some sort. I love a good old fashioned dry erase board.
If you have kids in school be sure to include their school schedule. Any extra activities that they need to be at.
Chore lists for your children.

Really this is up to you and what your family needs. But a busy family should have a central command center where they can go and see what the family plans are.
8 – Get The Kids Involved
Organize your home with everyone in mind.
I am the one who does most of the organizing in our home but that does not mean my kids do not pitch in.
I get them involved in our weekly cleaning schedule and they have their chore charts.
Mostly they need to maintain their area of the home.
I have made very simple systems for each of them in their rooms and bathrooms that organizing for them is not a chore.
Kids usually tend towards baskets when it comes to oganization so I kept it simple for them to do their part.
It’s easier for them to clean up their toys or their bathroom items when they go into baskets.
They are spending no time picking up so less whining from them and we all get to enjoy a organized space that is simple.
9 – Streamline Your Meals
No more figuring out what you are going to make for dinner as you are driving home from work.
No more looking into your fridge an hour before dinner is to be on the table and you do not know what to make.
Take a little time one day a week and start planning out your meals.
Organize your home by meal planning.
Meal planning is another one of those areas that has been a game changer for me since becoming a mom.
Not only is it more efficatnt to plan my meals ahead of time it saves our family a ton of money each year.

10 – Eliminate Paper Clutter
Paper clutter is probably the worst clutter every home has!
It will take over spaces if you let them.
This is why having places for those important papers are crucial.
I have many sytems in place for all my paperwork I recieve on a daily basis.
Every item I want to keep goes right into the envelope as I recieve it.
Now I am very picky about what I keep and each child only gets one envelope per school year.
For my bills, yes 😉 I’m old school. I keep all of those in my bill binder. When I am ready to pay my bills I write each bill down for my budgeting and I toss the bill.
