Since we moved into our new home In South Carolina I have been doing so much decorating. Searching Pinterest and YouTube for different design ideas and DIY’s.
I came across this Dollar Tree DIY Lantern on Do It On A Dime and I absolutely loved it! If you haven’t checked out Katheryn’s YouTube channel I highly suggest it. She has amazing frugal organizing and design ideas.
Confession Time – I have never been in a Dollar Tree before. We have a bunch near our home and I have to admit I am hooked. Stay tuned for a bunch of posts on hacks, organizing and decor things I have been working on in the new home.
I have always considered myself a frugal person but we never had Dollar Tree’s close to my home in Florida so I never went. I look back on all the money I spent on fancy organizing items and I could kick myself now!
My first item to make was this Dollar Tree DIY Lantern. I am far from crafty but this was so easy to pull together for only $4! My 7-year-old Josh even got in on the action in helping me put it together.
My Dollar Tree had many styles of picture frames. I went with the silver brushed ones as they went with my decor. Kep in mind if you do not see something you like you can always paint them first.
What You Will Need For The Dollar Tree DIY Lantern
- (4) Picture Frames (mine are 4×6)
- Hot Glue Gun
- Candles – These are ones I had repurposed but Dollar Tree does sell the battery operated ones
Ready to see how simple this Dollar Tree DIY Lantern is?
- Remove the image from the frames and remove the little tabs that hold in the picture.
2. Using your hot glue gun, glue the glass inserts to each frame
3. Once they are dry take your frames and glue them together making a rectangle.
4. Set on a table or sideboard and add your candles.
DONE!
Easy right?
Why I never thought to make this Dollar Tree DIY Lantern before is beyond me. I love this look and have spent an obnoxious amount of money on store bought ones before.
I have seen some that have images in them instead of the clear glass. Those are pretty as well with the light shining through the back.
How long does it take to complete the candle box? Can I repaint the frames with spray paint?
This took me less than 15 minutes. Yes you can spray paint the frames if you would like.
