It’s no secret when you want a healthier you, you need to start with what you eat. Along with my weight training and gym routine that I added this year I also overhauled my diet first. I took a look at what I ate but more importantly what I was not eating. Small changes made all the difference for me in my weight goals.
5 Things I Added To My Diet To Maintain My Weight Goals
I was never a big meat or egg eater so I looked in other areas to get the protein I needed. I will eat chicken and turkey but that gets boring for me, so I found a ton of protein packed things like protein pancakes, protein bars, protein shakes and yes even protein packed ice cream!
I was a huge carb eater, bread or pasta – YES please! Now I limit that into healthier carbs. I swapped the white rice for brown rice. I like to get the little already made bags a Trader Joe’s pop in them in the microwave and done. Sometimes I’ll have steel cut oats instead of regular oatmeal since its not processed and offers more fiber.
I’ll admit I never really looked at this one before until I found these fiber granola bars at Trader Joe’s once. The exact name is Fiberful Granola Bars Rolled Oats & Peanut Butter. Packed with 9gs of fiber! I LOVE them, they help with my sweet tooth but I found the more fiber I ate the more full I felt for longer. This cut down alot of my snacking and over eating for me. Plus adding fiber to your diet can help in other areas as well mostly to maintain your blood sugar.
Yes, I know this should be a given but it was never a fan of veggies so I often left them out. The trick was I needed to prep them so they were easy to grab and a dipping “sauce” was always better. I keep cut up carrots, celery or cucumbers on hand at all times. Plus whatever else is in season. Instead of reaching for the ranch dressing Ill use Greek yogurt, almond butter (protein!) or mash up some avocados.
Not all fat is bad! You need fat but you need good fats in your diet such as nuts, coconut oil, cheese and avocados. I snack on almonds or a cheese sticks all the time in between meals. Did I mention dark chocolate too? Yes, almonds and dark chocolate chips are my go to late night snack these days and its good for you.
These are the things I have added to my diet to maintain my weight goals that have worked for me. They may not work for everyone. Everyone is different but once you figure out your body and what works best you’ll see the results pretty quickly.
