Each fall, millions of children start a new school year. For many parents, this new schedule brings a sigh of relief. However, parents also feel a pang of anxiety about their children being away at school. School is somewhere where you have no idea what is really happening or how to take care of your kids.
Especially first time school moms worry about their child’s safety and feelings as well as their new friends and teacher. They may even hope their child isn’t being bullied or overwhelmed by schoolwork.

Many children need to be explicitly taught how to keep material organized. That is why it is a good idea to purchase your child a planner for school. It can even be one similar to your own. Show them how to use it effectively. Your child will think of you every time they open it! This can also help them remember to turn in their homework on time. It is definitely a great way to teach them quality life skills that can help them throughout their whole lives.
Make Home Inviting
Your child will relax better in school knowing there is a warm and nurturing environment waiting for them at home. Strive to keep your home a place where your child can feel safe, secure, and loved. A great after school snack is also helpful! Make sure that you are always there for your kids and can help them with anything they may need.
Let Them Go
Perhaps the best way you make your child feel cared for at school is to trust them. If you know your child can handle it, give them the freedom to walk home from school or set a study date with a friend. Don’t worry about the possibility of needing to google “accident attorney Las Vegas” or “dog bite first-aid” later. Odds are, your child will be fine, and he or she will feel wonderful knowing you trust them enough to make their own journey home.
