If you want your child to develop adequately, you need to create a functional space in its room that provides the best conditions for sleeping, resting, learning and playing.
Also, it’s important to include your children in that process. Listen to their wishes when it comes to choosing the color, shape and style of furniture and the cartoon characters and heroes that they want to include in the room decoration.
Physical activity is key to healthy development
They’ve spent all summer outdoors, running, clambering up, jumping; then the fall came and the number of hours spent outdoors inevitably decreased. But your child still needs physical activity. All of these outdoor activities have beneficial effects on physical and mental development of children in general It’s up to us to provide secure and stimulating indoor environment to ensure their proper development.
The solution exists. Why wouldn’t you, if you have enough space, bring the playground into the room? In fact, there’s a big trend of “gymnastic” rooms for children in the world today. You can use a variety of elements, such as an indoor swing or an indoor climbing wall.
Include your kids
It is important to involve children in decorating their rooms. When it comes to choosing colors, shapes, style of the furniture, as well as the details like super hero figurines (Black Suit Spiderman toys, Batman toys…), car models and stickers, listen to your child and accept at least part of its proposal. Don’t forget, the children will create a space according to their needs.
Children’s rooms can be arranged thematically, depending on the preferences of your child. For young athletes you should arrange the room in a sporty style, for those who love cartoons – with their favorite characters in the form of prints on the furniture or wallpaper, etc. Be imaginative and creative, and allow your children to guide you through the process.
Support their creativity
Dedicate one part of the room to be created by your children according to their current needs or moods.
Install a blackboard on which they can write, draw, count or hang their art and literary works. Organize exhibitions of their artwork in the room, whenever they want to show it to other family members.
Good lighting is important
To make a room cozy and pleasant you need to take care of the light. Provide high-quality sun protection so that children have the ability to dim the room. The best way to achieve this would be to install roller curtains and match them with colors and motifs in the room.
The room needs to have a nice little lamp for evenings, which can be easily moved and adapted to the current needs of your children.
Enable them to sleep well
Make sure you choose a quality bed and mattress, because the quality of sleep has a big impact on child’s concentration and development. Mattress needs to be comfortable and needs to help your kids with their posture. If, like me, you need to organize a room for two or more children (in my case three), bunk bed should be a mandatory piece of furniture in order to save space.
Your child is growing
Equip the room with flexible, mobile furniture, which has plenty of room for storage and that can easily be updated and upgraded with necessary elements because your children are growing and their needs are changing.
Making a cozy and playful room is a challenge, but it can also be enjoyable, because you’re creating a space that will be stimulating, inspiring and enjoyable for your child or children.
