When I look in my cabinet, I don’t always look at my bottle of cinnamon and think, wow what can you do for me today. Instead, sometimes you have an overabundance of cinnamon and you have to find a few new alternatives.

Check out these 10 alternative uses for cinnamon.

1 – Air Freshener

There is just something about the wonderful smell of cinnamon that makes an awesome air freshener. Whether you make your own potpourri or add cinnamon and water to your stove for a subtle sweet smell throughout the day.

2 – Fight Bad Breath

It may be hard to believe but cinnamon is sure to make your breath smell tons better. Sometimes people just have naturally bad breath and a mixture of cinnamon plus warm water makes an awesome way to get rid of that bad breath.

3 – Food Additive

One of my favorite uses for cinnamon is in foods.

Many of you probably recognize cinnamon in your sweet foods, but it also makes a great food additive in many other ways. You can add it to stews, soups, and anything else you want to have just a little more flavor.

4 – Get Rid of Ants

You may know this trick already, but one of the best ways to use cinnamon is by getting rid of ants. By sprinkling a little bit of cinnamon around your doors and windows, it has been said that it will help ward off ants. No one wants to deal with ants, so this is a nice and inexpensive way to get the job done.

5 -Use it to Make Candles

If you make your own candles, you can sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon in the beeswax while it is still ‘wet.’ It’s amazing how cinnamon smells as you burn it in a candle.

6 – For Stomach Aches

Are you someone who deals with stomach aches often? Cinnamon is a great way to help alleviate those stomach aches. It’s as simple as making cinnamon tea to help alleviate that upset tummy. This may work well in older children and adults.

7 – Help Bodily Smells

Sometimes your body may experience unwanted fungus or smells that you can’t get rid of. Why not use cinnamon as a sort of body healer? Add a little bit to your hot bath. Or use it as a soak to help alleviate fungus bodily smells that are hard to get rid of.

Trying to study and retain information? Cinnamon actually works as an awesome brain booster. Taking in a small amount of cinnamon can help your brain calm down and focus.

I think it’s awesome that you can use something right in your own cabinet to help you do all of these aforementioned “things.”

  1. Wow – I had no idea cinnamon would do all of this. I have an infestation of ants that I have been trying to get rid of. I’m off to sprinkle cinnamon around the doors, windows and outside areas where they are marching forth.

  2. I did not know about the other uses! I only knew cinnamon was for baking breads and making stews. Wow. Thanks for the information. I learned something new today. I’m going to try that trick to get rid of the ants. 🙂

  3. I can verify that cinnamon works great on keeping ants away. Apparently, it interferes with their pheromones which is essentially their main way of “seeing” the world around them. However, I think borax powder may be a bit cheaper than using cinnamon to control ants. Either way is relatively safe and natural though.
