When you live in a home for a while, or you just downsized, having an abundance of items can be overwhelming and knowing where to store all of these items can be equally frustrating.
Explained below are six tips to help you find storage space for all your items to help declutter your home.
Utilize Walls
Empty walls are a great area to hang coats, hats, and scarves. You can even build a small shelf or a series of shelves to store these and other items. This trick is best used on walls that are out of sight or in under-utilized rooms. Also, please make sure that building shelves is alright with your landlord before you install them if you’re renting the property.
Retractable Shelves
Slim, retractable shelving that can be installed in between appliances in your kitchen is a convenient way to store spices and utensils in your kitchen. In other areas of your home, it may be a viable way to store smaller household items like brooms or squeegees.
Underneath The Stairs
If you have stairs where the back side is accessible, why not use the area to store some items. Although this is an effective way of storing items, you may want to only place items under stairwells that are in a basement or in an area that is not commonly seen by guests.
Underneath Beds
If your bed is high enough, you can place items underneath the bed that are out of sight. You can put whatever you like underneath, but placing blankets, pillows, or other bedroom items underneath may be a more accessible storage area for these items.
Drawers
Installing drawers where there’s extra space to be utilized is a clever way of storing items. A carefully designed drawer installed on a bench or couch can be aesthetically pleasing and useful. Take a look around your home and see where a drawer could be easily installed.
Storage Bins
A sturdy storage cabinet or bin from Quantum Storage, can be just the thing you need to store many items without having containers spread out all over the house. A steel cabinet would work great for storing screws, nails, and larger tools. If you’re into crafts, organizing all your yarn, ribbon, and paint will be a breeze. These cabinets come in different sizes, too.
Organizing your home doesn’t have to be overly stressful. Throwing items away or giving them to a thrift store can be helpful when narrowing down the essentials. But when you still have too many things, remember the six helpful hints above.
