My kids are huge animal lovers! We took the kids to the Miami Metro Zoo last weekend for their BOO at The ZOO event. My kids had a blast. The zoo itself is huge, with tons of animals. The best thing about it is every single exhibit there were no obstructions to view the animals. Each location you stopped at had benches and plenty of shade. The kids just enjoyed sitting and watching the animals. Everyone had a favorite but I think the hit was the elephants. They happened to be closer to us than any others we had seen, so they were able to see how big they really were.
What’s nice about the Miami Metro Zoo is they have a very nice children’s area. Complete with a petting zoo, my favorite it was CLEAN. You walk into a barn type building and get to see a few goats in their pens but then walk out and get to pet them! My kids absolutely loved this. They could have stayed there all day if they didnt know about trick or treating. Yes they allowed trick or treating at the zoo. In select sections they had stations set up where kids could get a candy to put into their zoo bag. It was very different and a nice experience. It gave a nice twist on just a day at the zoo.
As I said this zoo is so big so for little ones it could get a bit tiring for their little legs. We bought tickets for the monorail $3 a person to ride all day. VERY worth the money. You get to see animals from a different view and even though it wasnt a typical hot South Florida day it was nice to sit in the A/C for a bit. They offer many stops but if you decide to ride the whole thing its about 45 mins just enough for a quick nap for little ones. They also have different bikes to rent. I thought my littlest was to young or we would have gotten one. Kids can sit nicely in the front and adults or older children can ride them. You do not even have to get off the bike to view the animals which made it a nice feature.
My 5 year old said “This was the best zoo she had ever seen”. I think by the end of the day we all felt that way. There was so much to do no one could get bored. Expect to stay all day though if you want to see everything. Overall I think we did pretty well.We were there about 6 hours and saw everything we wanted to see plus the trick or treating added some time. For the price of admission and the drive it is well worth it! Adults are $16 and children are $12, under 2 free. And parking is free. For me I think it was just as fun as an amusement park and a third of the price. I actually wished we lived closer! If you are in the South Florida area I highly recommend checking it out!
