A few weekends ago we had a long overdue weekend family vacation. We live only about a two hour drive from the Orlando attractions and have yet to take advantage of that. Instead of jumping right into a “BIG” park we decided we could handle SeaWorld with our 3 small kids by ourselves. We have been there a few times before we had children and one other time when my daughter was 2 so we knew the park for the most part.
We decided to spend one full day (Saturday) and we are glad we did. We got there right when they opened at 9am. We wanted to beat the crowds but more importantly the heat. We headed right for Shamu’s Happy Harbor. The first thing we did was the Sea Carousel, all kids enjoyed it and it was a nice easy ride to start the day. We just casually went from ride to ride. Before we knew it my daughter (5 yrs old) became a thrill junkie. She wanted to go on everything! Including the Shamu Express the roller coaster for kids. I went with her the first time and it was so cute watching her. I don’t know if I would allow any younger than that ride. My son ( 3yrs old) didn’t want to ride it, kind of glad it was a bit rocky. She rode that at least 7 times through out the day!
It was getting near 12 o’ clock when the first One Ocean show started so we grabbed a snack and started walking. My daughter wanted to get “very wet”, we compromised and sat in the second to top row of the soak zone. As the show began their eyes were open with amazement! All 3 kids fixated on Shamu and his friends. The trainers did an amazing job. They talked about how humans and people are part of one world, one ocean. It was truly remarkable show. Of course my kids favorite part when we felt a small drizzle from Shamu splashing. I would say the first 5 rows got soaked but where we were it was hardly anything. The show lasted about 25 minutes, just enough for little kids to sit through.
Once the show was over we grabbed “lunch”. I had some fruit and crackers for the kids and plenty of water with me so that saved us time and money. We let them each get a big cookie after lunch. That was a highlight as you can see the cookies were the size of their heads. We played some games, they each won a stuffed animal and rode a few more rides before we called it a day. We started to notice after the One Ocean show it became very crowded, not as bad as we thought but much more than at 9am. So Id recommend getting there as early as possible. By 3 o’clock the heat had really began to set in and all the kids were tired. It was alot of walking! My 3 yr old said” his legs were going to fall off”. Thinking about it now I probably should have brought a second stroller for him or even rented a double one for him and my littlest.
Sea World exceeded our expectations! All 3 of my kids enjoyed every minute, it was a nice 1 day trip. I think anything more than that for small kids they could get antsy.
They do offer many other shows besides One Ocean such as:
- Alure the Call of the Ocean
- Blue Horizons
- Clyde and Seamore Take Pirate Island
- Pets Ahoy
But really the main attraction was Shamu and the rides for us, anyone who is taking toddler’s I dont know if they could sit through another show at least my kids anyway. Living here in Florida has its advantages, Sea World offers FL Residents a discount but if you are not from here they have affordable options for everyone. You can keep up to date with their events on Facebook and Twitter. A perfect destination and we will be back next year for sure!
