I spend countless hours each day finding deals and coupons but never really talked about the meaning of Couponing Away Debt and where it came from. For the next few weeks I will go over tips and experiences I have learned along the way trying to get out of debt. You can catch up on last weeks post HERE.
Along with starting small. Do not go crazy every week. Just because you see a great deal on them do you need 100? No! This is where couponing could bite you in the you know where. When you buy 100 of something it is going to eat away at your out of pocket spending bottom line. Even if toothpaste is at a rock bottom price for $.25c add it up buying 100 just costs you $25.00. You need to stock up for your family 3 months at a time. There WILL be another sale. Each sale cycle runs 6 – 12 weeks as long as you have to cover those weeks your okay.
Time Is Money
This is an important lesson. You may think driving all day to get the best deals you came home with hundreds of items for cheap, think again. What did it cost in gas? Gas prices these days are insane! That needs to be a factor. Just something to think about. Sometimes I’ll sacrafice a few bucks for my children’s melting down point as well. If I know they have had it some times moms gotta do what a moms gotta do. That extra $1 is not worth it in the end…may sting a bit 😉
They are all different with different policies. Know your store. I am a Publix shopper in Florida. We do not double coupon down here and my BOGO salesare true BOGOs, meaning one rings up at full price the other$.00. Again start small go to the store this week you shop at with a few coupons for items you know are on sale. There are thousands of websites to find match ups (ask me I’ll find it). Even if you have saved $10 just by using coupons you’ve won!
Drug Stores are a great way to maximize savings. They all offer their own “free money” in some way. For example CVS has razors on sale this week for $9.99 they may offer a $5 “free money” better known as to CVS Extra Care Bucks when you buy that razor. You would use that $5 on your NEXT purchase. Even without a coupon you’ve really spent $4.99 for that razor. That “Free Money” can be rolled into something else. Let’s say that same week you found a body wash for $5.99 and $2 Extra care Bucks back when you buy it. Use your ECB from the razor youve just paid $.99c and got $2 back! Plus add coupons to this deal you really pay rock bottom prices for items you use everyday.
Here it is broken down:
$5ECB wyb Razor for $9.99
Pay $9.99 get back $5
$2ECB wyb Body Wash for $5.99
Use $5 ECB from previous pay $.99c and still get $2 ECB back
Where Do You Get Coupons
EVERYWHERE! I get the Sunday Paper and print online mostly. You could dumpster dive for them, ask a friend or neighbor, trade, use a clipping service. The possibilities are endless.
